{"id":234,"date":"2013-11-09T21:50:23","date_gmt":"2013-11-10T05:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/?p=234"},"modified":"2014-11-24T09:06:40","modified_gmt":"2014-11-24T17:06:40","slug":"hotdogs-books-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/2013\/11\/09\/hotdogs-books-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"Hotdogs, Books, and the Rock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our annual sojourn to <strong>Morro Bay<\/strong> is in progress.\u00a0 We got down here at about 1:30 just before the streets were blocked off for the Saturday Farmer&#8217;s Market.\u00a0 First stop is &#8220;<em><strong>Hot Dogs on the Harbor<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; on Main Street.\u00a0 Now they have great hotdogs and chili, but the real reason is that in June of 2011, on the way back from a conference in Newport Beach, we stopped there on <strong>Gregorio<\/strong>&#8216;s first day of business.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-1-of-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-248\" alt=\"SLO (1 of 11)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-1-of-11-300x292.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"292\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-1-of-11-300x292.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-1-of-11-1024x1000.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-1-of-11.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 He had his cousin I think, helping him this first day\/weekend\/week. \u00a0A minimum overhead operation. \u00a0He took orders for about 3 groups, then went away and food appeared. \u00a0When this group was fed, he would move to the window for the next set of customers. \u00a0Everybody seemed to know the drill. \u00a0Everyone waited patiently. \u00a0Everyone was smiling as they ate.<\/p>\n<p>We also went to &#8220;our&#8221; book store, <em><strong>Coalesce Book Store<\/strong> <\/em>[ www.coalescebookstore.com ]<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MorroBay-1-of-16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-235\" alt=\"MorroBay (1 of 16)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MorroBay-1-of-16-300x224.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MorroBay-1-of-16-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MorroBay-1-of-16-1024x767.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MorroBay-1-of-16.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> where I took this picture last year.\u00a0 It is a &#8220;real&#8221; book store and almost worth the drive from the SF Bay Area by itself.\u00a0 I usually find one book there that I live in for a while.\u00a0 I think I found one this time:\u00a0 <em><strong>Gift of the Sea<\/strong><\/em> by <strong>Anne Morrow Lindbergh<\/strong>.\u00a0 The first of the book is:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>The beach is not a place to work, to read, write or think.\u00a0 I should have remembered that from other years.\u00a0 Too warm, too damp, too soft for any real mental discipline or sharp flights of spirit.\u00a0 One never learns.\u00a0 Hopefully, one carries down the faded straw bag, lumpy with books, clean paper, long over-due unanswered letters, freshly sharpened pencils, lists and good intentions.\u00a0 The books remain unread, the pencils break their points and the pads rest smooth and unblemished as the cloudless sky.\u00a0 No reading, no writing, no thoughts even &#8211; at least, not at first.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, that is the beach.\u00a0 That is the sea. \u00a0And I hope Anne Morrow, that it is okay that I quoted so much.. \u00a0from a flier such as yourself.. as Charles.<\/p>\n<p>We then walked to the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-7-of-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-253\" alt=\"SLO (7 of 11)\" src=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-7-of-11-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-7-of-11-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-7-of-11-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.iwitnessings.com\/writings\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/SLO-7-of-11.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> <strong>Rock<\/strong>, here seen at sunset from the docs.
